Hello. My name is Gavin York. I became interested in sports psychology through my work as a snooker coach. I have been a snooker coach since 2008. In the beginning I was only interested in technique and I thought the player with the best technique would always win. However as I became more experienced I realised that the way that you think could affect your behaviour and your ability to perform. It was then that I realised the importance of a good mindset and I started to study psychology.
In 2022 I gained a MSc in Psychology from the University of Northampton. This allowed me to start the long journey to becoming a qualified sport and exercise psychologist. In 2024 I graduated from the University of Staffordshire with a distinction in sports and exercise psychology. I am now enrolled on the final stage of my qualification and I am working as a trainee sport and exercise psychologist under the supervision of Dr Brian Hemmings.
I still play snooker when I have the time and I continue to coach players of all abilities. My favourite sport is now table tennis and I captain a team in the Northampton Table Tennis League. In 2025 we were fortunate enough to win the division 2 title and get promoted! I also enjoy tennis and I enjoy watching all types of sports especially athletics, football and golf.
My current research is based around anxiety, choking and the yips in sport. My many years of experience in precision sports enables me to understand how frustrating these issues can be for players. If you are having struggles with any of these issues then please get in touch. I have supported players and athletes in a variety of sports including football, golf, pool, tennis and track and field so feel free to get in touch.

I am currently undertaking stage 2 of the qualification in sport and exercise psychology and am working as a trainee sports psychologist under supervision. I have the following qualifications.
